Hello, my laptop hard drive stopped working and as a result I am not able to transfer to new HD. How do I configure new hard drive? Will not accept original OS cd.

Search the hdd freezer method for possible recovery

Why wont it accept the original os cd? Also you can download one online and use the key off the bottom of the laptop no problem, as long as its the same version (xp home\pro, vista\7 with 5 versions)

A few laptop manufacturers have opted to have their recovery disks only install to 'their' hard drives.

Which laptop do you have?

OEM keys usually dont work with retail windows disks either unless they've been hacked.

No they usually do work.... why wouldn't they? As long as they are the same versions, it should.
