What is a discrete video card

Hello,
my current system:
P5E
E6850
4Gb DDR2 800
GTX 8800

I want to play the latest games but surprise surprise money is tight! What would be a decent upgrade now? GTX570 would the cpu cope or should i move to a Quad core on the 775 and change GPU? Many thanks

You should move to a c2qd and overclock it, a discrete video card is a graphics in a pcie slot i guess. But the best option would be switching to sandybridge and use an i5-2500k
