Mac pro 1st gen lga-771 socket?

Hello,
I have an early Mac Pro 1st gen. Can I replace the original 2.66 dual core cpu's with the intel 5482's? The Mac Motherboard I believe is socket 771 with 667fsb. I believe the intel 5482's are also socket 771. Will they work and if not, what is the best/fastest quad core cpu that will work in this machine by todays standards 2011?

  1. You can use any of the Clovertwon Xeon's. Keep your mind on cooling and power if you upgrade to quads as they are 120w compared to the original 80w cpu's.
