Building a new PC

Hello guys, I plan to be building a desktop for my university years and would like some guidance. I'm currently studying Computer Science, and so would like to have a powerful (but of course affordable) computer for around 1000$ (before monitor). Gaming will surely be done on this computer.

I've done a few builds, but my main request is for someone to post all the components I will need to be able to run the computer and connect to the internet.

I know:

Case
Motherboard
Power Supply
CPU
RAM
Graphics Card (Optional if there is onboard, necessity for me)
Sound Card (Optional)
Hard Drive
CD/DVD drive

And operating system is a given.

So my question is, what am I missing if anything? I would imagine I need some sort of wireless internet card, but I'm not sure.

If your college has a wired connection use that Shared wireless sucks.

It'll give you pretty solid performance for gaming and programming. You really don't need more than 8GB of RAM for programming. Despite what people actually think.
