Hello, I bought a psu (http://www.maplin.co.uk/750w-cit-atx-power-supply-227870) to power my 1gb xfx radeon 6950 xxx card in a rush (big mistake) but under high load the psu cuts out. Now the psu is ONLY powered the card and nothing else as I've connected the card to my laptop via its expresscard slot. I was thinking the cut out is due to the psu not providing adequate power and so cuts out for protection from overload?

AC INPUT: 230VAC 10A 50-60Hz Model 750UB
DC +3.3V +5V +12V1 +12V2 -12V +5VSB
Output 28A 30A 22A 22A 0.3A 2.5A
Max 750 W

A 6950 needs about 18 - 20 amps at 12 volts, so a 750 watt PSU should be adequate.

OTOH, from the PSU specs, you could have easily bought a much better PSU. 44 amps on the 12 volt rails is a good output - for a 600 watt PSU. A good 750 watt PSU should produce around 60 amps.

Gavra is half right. Get a better PSU.

I wouldn't mind getting a decent psu to replace this like both of you have said but I'm just confused why it seems to cut out when the 6950 is under load even though like you have said, it's adequate. Could the fault be at the psu or gpu end?

The temps are in line and I've even tried under clocking it to no avail. No matter I will just return it, lesson learned. Thanks for the help guys :)
