Hi All,

I'm a first time builder and hoping for some feedback on whether all the following looks good to go before I purchase...

Acer G205HVbd Black 20" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor

The case only comes with 2 fans so I don't know if the Rosewill ones are good or not but I wanted to go ahead and get as many the case holds without getting anything that'll put me over my budget. Everything above comes to a bit under $900 which is what I'm hoping to spend. Thanks in advance for any feedback or suggestions!

I agree that 750W is overkill.

You could get a modular, high quality 550-600W psu for less and have a cleaner case to go with it.

An AM3+ mobo is important if you are planning on ever upgrading. I personally tend to upgrade more than just my CPU whenever the time comes. (by then mobo features/RAM tend to be outdated as well)

Wow thanks for the superfast replies! :D So maybe a smaller PSU. How about this?

The RAM was one thing I was unsure about...how do I make sure its compatible? If it's DDR3 1600 RAM do the motherboard specs need to list 1600 under the "memory standard" section?

If I switch to Outlander's suggested mobo and PSU I could get this moniter instead...

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I've decided to get my original posted setup with the addition of swapping the PSU and mobo for outlanders suggestion, that way I can get the 23.6" moniter. :D I decided to stick with the Radeon 6850 just cause I do have a tight budget and the $10 less makes a difference lol. Cool, and thanks again!

You'll have to forgive my ignorance lol ;) ...increasing Vram in the bios? what does that mean exactly? Will the ram I had chosen not work at all or is "increasing Vram" just like a performance tweak? Thanks.

^ Not as stable should be more of the case. Failing is also one possible factor. Contributing to unstable OCs is also one thing. Though I have used 1.65v ram, and still am using 1.65v ram sticks. It works pretty well. Though I'm using the 790FX-GD70.

Ok, so what's a good rule of thumb for determining if RAM is compatible with a selected motherboard? What do you need to look for in the specs?

Is this RAM good also since its 1.5V?

Also, even though that motherboard can handle 32GB I assume it doesn't matter if you put in only 4GB?

I personally just finished my first build, i now have phenom ii x6 1100 T overclocked to 4.03 ghz. My question for you is why do you need all the extra fans? I have a case with two 120 mm fans. But i upgraded the cpu fan to coolermaster 212 plus for only 29.99 at tigerdirect.com. Also they have 8 gb patriot sector five ram for 54.99 before rebate i think its 35 after, and its 1333 mhz and can be overclocked to 2000. I would personally considering going for a cheaper case mine is the coolermaster haf 912, (49.99). My cp running at 4.0 ghz only gets to a max temp of 45 degrees using prime95 stress testing; and getting the six core processor for 60 dollars more from tigerdirect. Trust me i started with a dual core and upgraded within a couple of weeks. The suggestion for going for an am3+ mobo is also good and thats my next upgrade as well that way you will be prepared for the new chip in the next year or so. Hope this helps a little

Like I said this is my first build so I just assumed that if the case could take 5 fans it would be best to max it out for keeping it cool but do you think 5 isn't nessecary?

The RAM you suggested is rated 1.65 voltz and according to previous comments I thought they were saying that 1.6v won't be stable with my mobo since its rated for 1.5...?

Ok well maybe I'll cut back to just one extra fan then to save some $ :D

So to clarify this RAM rated 1.5 is fine ...

but my original one rated 1.6 is not good for my selected mobo correct?
