Hello,
My Dell Inspiron Desktop is only about a 1 1/2 year old system. The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.
At present I have the following:
AMD Athlon II x2 2.8GHz
with L2 Cache of 2048
8 gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4200 256 Display Adapter
ATI Radeon HD 2400 Graphics Card

My hard drive is failing, so I'm shopping for one now. While I'm pretty clear on the brand [WD], size, and RPM, I don't know what to look for when it comes to the hard drive's cache size.

Here's newegg's email promo list: http://promotions.newegg.com/neemail/dec-0-2011/stockingstuffer06/index-landing.html?nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL120611&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL120611-_-EMC-120611-Index-_-E0-_-alldeals. Hardrive prices are high right now, so I would also check amazon and tigerdirect. This promo has a 1 tb for $114.99 and a couple of ssd's, which I prefer.

Thanks o1die :)
I not only checked New Egg, Tiger, CDW, & Amazon, but also think I have a handle on the "cache" question I posted earlier.
Amazon IS [at this time] the place to go for pricing - but some of these lower rates are being offered by third party vendors... vendors I have never dealt with before.

I found no shortcut in cloning my Seagate Barracuda 350 HD [which came with the Dell 570] to the Western Digital Blk Cavier 500 . While the WD is backwards compatible, there seemed to be no way around transferring without the 6 Gb/s data jumper. Also, other than enough size on a new drive, the HD itself isn't really going to help with any issues - those issues are, I'm convinced, due to my CPU.
