Question about getting a new mobo

So I've got an old Intel Duo Core2 processor which uses a LGA775 socket mobo, I'm looking to upgrade but more of a software kinda guy and would appreciate some info/advice. Would I have to replace my casing in order to fit a mobo which uses a different socket for some sort of i7 processor?

Nope, the case ought to do fine if you have the right form factor board.
The case and the CPU socket are not the ones that need be compared, it's the Motherboard form factor and the Case that need to be compared.
