[SOLVED] COMPLETELY a novice builder - 800-850$ Price Range Gaming RIG

Approximate Purchase Date: Tomorrow.

Budget Range: (1200-1100) Before / After Rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Purely Gaming

Parts Not Required: All I need is the tower itself

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, Tigerdirect Microcenter

Country of Origin: U.S.

Parts Preferences: I5 2500k

Overclocking: Yes

SLI or Crossfire: Later on

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: I game a lot, and there's a lot of quality games coming out. I need a rig that can eat gaming, with room for upgrading later when I get more money.

I honestly have never done this before, and have no idea where to start, all I know is that I heard the I5 2500K is a cheap, excellent cpu.

  1. I came not some extra money, and did a little research, and I was wondering what you guys thought of my build. Note - I don't want the change the case, I'm really sold on the design, I know it may not be the most effective but the looks are so sexy that I'm willing to make compromises to have this case.

Ah I was posting while you were...lol. That's a great build you have up there. You might want to look at a few of the combo's I have...maybe the RAM + psu to save a few buck, but nice build. :)
  4. Heads up -- you can pick up the i5-2500k for $180 before tax from Micro Center
  5. Yeah, sorry about that. Should of done my research prior. xD. I appreciate it though, Thanks for the help.
  6. Best answer
first of all get CPU MOBO combo from microcenter
i5-2500k alone is 180 there and with mobo it's extra 40 off .. if u really want that mobo which I see no point in especially if u plan on cf cause by the time pci 3.0 capable GPUs come out u'll have to switch it again ..
40$ only works on Z68 mobos
but u can get something like http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0364996
    or http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0366192

    case is personal choice
for GPU do u plan on multi monitor setup? if not then 1Gb just fine especially if u can pop one in in the future
otherwise I've heard good things about http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161372
    stays cool and quiet
    don't get low voltage RAM
    u want 1.5V something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145345
and for PSu get something better like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139009
  7. I suppose I should add this, I was not sure if it was important or not. For my Monitor, I use my HD Television as a monitor, would that impact anything on my build? Build's been changed a bit to...

If it matters at all, here's my TV.

    VIZIO E420VO 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Black
    http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-E420VO-42-Inch-1080p-Black/dp/B003VQQVDK

It's just hooked up to an RGB cable.
  8. oh almost forgot get cooler for ur CPU .. how much budget u have left?
the cheap one will be CM Hyper 212+
  9. Right now, Tax, (God i hate California) My Newegg total is 716.92 And my Microcenter total is 344, So I'm at 1061. I was thinking of buying another 200m fan from their website for 15$, So I'm pretty much tapped at my budget. turns out I now need to buy a decent gaming keyboard because the one I had saved was broken.

I'm trying to keep everything total below 1100.

I'm totally inept when it comes to computers, but I Know the case I chose only allows for 200m fans of it's own company (Nzxt), will that cooler for my CPU fit?
  10. yes best cooler for the money
if u don't mind different look I would switch to another case and try to find some combo deals on sale
  11. Yeah I really want this case because the design just had me sold, that, and me and a cousin are having a childish build-off. I guess for the final total of how I'm doing, This is where I am

1076 - Build without CPU Cooler

    1116 - With http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065
    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065

1166 - With CPU Cooler and Microsoft Sidewinder X4 gaming Keyboard
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823109191

So I'm about 66$ over budget.. I just REALLY don't want to change the case. Do I have any alternatives left?
  12. honestly not really any change will impact performance so unless u can find combo deals which I couldn't u sol
  13. I bit the bullet and just went with it, A bit more than I wanted to spend, but I'm sure the computer's going to be real sexy.

Thanks for the help everyone, Appreciated!
