Hi i am thinking about getting a new gaming PC but am quite confused. Well i got some quotes from a shop about getting one custom built but one said that the processor was an Intel Core i7 runnig at 2.8Ghz.

Now what i don't understand is why some Intel Core i5 processors are running at a faster speed with 3.20Ghz or something. Which is better?

Any help would be highly appreciated, thanks ;)

i5 2300,i5 2400, I5 2500 or i5 2500k is perfect for gaming. The K CPU-s are unlocked and can be overclock higher than non k.
The diference between i7 and i5 is the i7 have 4 cores and 8 threads and i5 4 cores and 4 threads.
The i5 is the best choice for gaming.

You'll have to be more specific: i7 can mean socket 1366 or the newer 1155. Ask for the model number of the cpu. For example, the 2100 1155 is two cores with hyperthreading. Speed isn't the only factor to consider. I would also view this video and consider building your own:

ok, thanks both of you for your help. I was considering building one but i find it a bit risky cause u need to make sure all the components are compatiable with eachother and i would rather the shop do a good job on it. thnx anyway :) .

I guesse i might consider going with the i5 then as it was also cheaper than i7

For gaming the Intel® Core™ i5-2500K is about the best gaming processor on the market. Matching it up with a good Z68 board will give you an outstanding performance.
