Yes. Sata 3.0 ports are backwards compatable.

you can connect the hdd to the sata 6gbps port, the ports are backwards compabitle. but don't expect any performance increase because mechanical hdds can't even saturate regular sata 3gbps.
you could test with a benchmark or try to copy files from one partition to another and monitor the speed.
one more thing, does your dh67cl motherboard have b3 rev.? just checking.

Yeah, SATA 6 Gb/s is only really useful for solid state drives, mechanical drives won't see any benefit over SATA 3 Gb/s. If you don't have the b3 revision board, do not use the SATA 6 Gb/s ports. The chipsets prior to the B3 revision have issues with the SATA 6 Gb/s ports overloading, destroying the drive connected to it.

iirc, b2 revs had problems with sata II, 3gbps ports. the 6gbps ports weren't affected. b3 revs solved that problem. problems were with the ports.

I'm pretty sure it was the SATA 3.0 ports that had the problem, the SATA 2.0 ports were fine on the pre b3 1155 boards. Isn't it fun when chipset problems don't get ironed out before a product launch?

I stand corrected. Hopefully he has the B3 revision, at best only half his SATA ports will be 3.0.

your usb drive can't go over it's specifications. usb 3.0 is backwards compatible, so the port will switch to 2.0 speed when it detects a usb 2.0 device. it is very unlikely you'll see any speed increase.
