Could be in the wrong-subsection, or the wrong section entirely. Help me out here guys, i couldnt see much of a section dedicated to displays and outputs.
Im doing research for a friend of mine. In order to prevent his kids from scratching his disks, he backs them up on his computer and usually outputs it to his TV. Now 3D comes in. Ive seen lots of information on the 3D nVidia graphics cards and their shutter-like glasses.
This friend has a 3D TV (samsung) who have their own shutter glasses. He's looking to upgrade his computer to with a 3D blu-ray drive (Pioneer BDR205-BK) so he can continue backing them up (which is fine). The retail pack comes with software for backing up and outputting, but I think my supplier has only the drive in stock and not the pack (which I will confirm, but i would still like this answered for future reference).
So my question is, do I also need to upgrade his graphics card at the same time if he wants to output 3D to his TV, or is only specialised software required? I thought there may be a different output type required for 3D, hence my question about if he needs a new graphics card, or does HDMI work with 3D? Is there a work-around for if you must have a graphics card, such as if he could output from his computer into his normal blu-ray player, and play from that, or perhaps to a HDD and direct to the TV or the player?
Also, would such an upgrade be redundant and/or useless anyway. nVidia have their own shutter glasses, and so does his TV. How does that work out?
Thanks guys, any help appreciated.
