New to 3d gaming! Need help!

I just got a 3d tv and am quite new to the 3d scene..I have a laptop having ati 5650m graphics card.How do i enable 3d.
Also will gaming performance take a hit with 3d enabled?Can i use hdmi 1.4 with any laptop?Plz help!
