Can i install windows xp in AHCI mode..
how is AHCI different from IDE(Please specifically mention if possible, not just like better performance etc)..

Yes you can, but you'll need to install SATA drivers at the moment the OS installation asks you to press F6 to install drivers or by turning on IDE emulation in the BIOS settings if it's available (usually labeled IDE mode, ATA mode, or COMPATIBILITY mode [versus AHCI mode and RAID mode]).

This is because XP (and earlier) does not have native drivers for SATA interface. If you were to try installing XP w/o third party drivers, you'll be rewarded with a "could not detect boot device" error message.
