I had an Nvidia 7600 graphics card for quite a while and suddenly when I turned on my computer the screen froze up at the point where the Intel logo came up with the "pressF2 for BIOS". The fans worked but the pc would not boot. When I removed the card it was super hot and several capacitors were popped. I replaced the card and had the same freeze up problems. I am running the monitor from the MB built- in graphic chip plugin. Apart from that, everything else seems to be working o.k. The obvious thing to do next would be to replace the power supply and if that made no diference then the motherboard, but I was wondering if there is another way of testing to narrow it down.
