Graphics and cpu

iv currently purchased a ati saphire 6950 2 gig but not actually knowing much about bottlnecking i recently got told that would happend i currently have a core 2 duo e6600 i did have a intel 9550 but it had a dodgy core on it so i had to go back to my old cpu but i was wondering if someone new what the minimum cpu on both intel and amd i could use and get the full potential out of the graphics card thanks

A quad core is ok . I think even a tri core oveclocked will handlle it.

Conroe or Wolfdale? (Conroe I'm guessing; 65nm)

I'd do a bit of overclocking if you're capable. That CPU is a bit aged, but can still be decent for gaming with some OCing.

Try to RMA that Q9550, that'd be your best bet and would keep up with your GPU nicely. That's what I use with my 6970. (however overclocked to 3.6ghz atm)
