The 8800GTX was not a G92, that said if you meant the 8800GTS G92 then the block should fit as the 8800GT and the 9800GT are one and the same just as the G92 8800GTS is the same as a 9800GTX.

What were the differences between the two cards?

the memory chips are in slightly different places so the block wasnt covering them and also it bent the board into a slight curve.

Why did it bend the board?

becuase the block doesnt fit snug to the card so it had a pressure point in the middle of the board which bent it upwards

So the mounting holes on a GT and GTS board are slightly different?

Well as the 8800GTS (G92) and the 9800GTX are one and the same I would hope that problem doesn't rear it's head but looking at pictures of the 8800GT and 8800GTS G92's they did look they shared the same PCB.

yeah thats why i swapped them over but i wish i hadnt now. I thought they were the same and it looks like the same pcb but they have small changes that make swapping the coolers incompatible

I had similar when I swapped the coolers over from my 7900GT's to the 8800GT's but I was luckier in that case because they did have exactly the same PCB.

yeah they did have and alot of articles do state that the 8800gts and the 9800gt have the same pcb but the 9800gt is slightly different. I found that my 8800gts was more powerful than my 9800gt aswell becuase the 9800 had some transistors and stream processors deactivated and taken out

Yes, the 8800GT and 9800GT have 112 cores and the 8800GTS and 9800GTX have 128 cores. So it would be more powerful just as a 9800GTX is going to be more powerful than an 8800GT.
