I have a MSI G41M4-f That ive had for a few months now and its worked great!.....till last night. I've started using Ubuntu (just a little linux testing) and I use it on another harddrive. I shut it down before i went to dinner and just left it shutting down, normal right? well when i came back, the power light was flashing and the screen was off. I thought Ubuntu might of just put it in a sleep or suspend mode, so i just switched it off and on through the back. When i tried to turn it on, it didnt power on, all it does is turn on the fans for half a second and then no more power goes through. I tried to use another power supply and it didnt work either. I unplugged all the hard drives and PCI cards, in case it stopped it from completely booting but it still did the same. I even added more thermal grease, and nothing. My only thoughts are possibly the CPU or the power switch. Any other thoughts or solutions? thank you

added MORE thermal grease, thats a bad idea, you want it to be quite thin

looking at what youve done so far i'd probaly place the blame on the cpu or mobo, its possible that while you where gone your system surged or somthing on those lines.

But before you get too worked up (if you are) does your system have a speaker/buzzer
try removing all the ram and if it beeps like crazy then its somthing else, if not try going down to 1 stick

the thermal grease looked almost dry, so i put a fresh drop on it, i didnt put so much. I tried removing the memory too, and it didnt even beep either, it doesnt at all get to the boot sequence, just shows power goes through for a second and then its gone.

try using the jumper pins... remove the cap, if you cant find em, take out the cmos battery by pushing on the little pin, leave it out for ~1hr to 24hrs
