Hello,

As you can tell, I don't know much about graphics cards and my 8800 GTS recently died so I am in need of a new one. Anyways, i was thinking of picking up a GTS 450, specifically this one http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=57924 as it is extremely cheap with the mail in rebate at $40.00. I recently read about CPU's bottlenecking graphics cards and whatnot so I wasn't sure if my CPU would also do this with this card. If this card would work fine with my rig please let me know. Thanks

Rig

Asus p5k mobo
intel core 2 quad q6600 cpu
Ultra 650w power supply

If you need anything else please let me know. Once again thanks.

Edit: Oh and I also use WinXP if it matters. Stuck in the medieval days....

Solution
First make sure your PSU has a 6 pin PCIE power connector
if not you can get adapters to use with the other 12 volt power lines
(4 pin molex (white 4 pin) and sata)

your q6600 wont bottleneck the card
Even if it did it wouldnt hurt anything
bottleneck is often a misunderstood phrase
in this case it means the card wouldnt work to full potential
but would still work fine

also if you look at this Toms GPU chart
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card,2964-7.html
the 450 is only one tier above your 8800GTS
so your not going to see a dramatic improvement

if your looking to improve graphics
then your looking at a GTX 460 1gb or HD 6850 to see a major improvement

but if your okay with the performance of your 8800GTS then the...

If you're looking for a good upgrade, try the GTX 460 1GB as suggested by king smp or try the Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Xtreme. Benchmarked higher than the 6850 and last-gen cards are always cheaper!

Thanks for the reply everyone I really appreciate it. And the reason I'm looking at the 450 is because I'm on a low budget and this seems to be a good deal with the $40.00 rebate. Once again thanks for the replies everyone.
