Best ATA100 driver for P4 in win2000

Hello

I was wondering which ATA100 driver to choose for win2000.

Native win2000 SP2 driver
Intel Ultra ATA100 drivers
Intel Application Accelerator (includes ATA100 drivers)

I have had some problems when installing Application Accelerator (system refuses to boot, blue screen etc), anybody else who have had problems with IAA?

Are there any settings in BIOS that should be considered when installing Intels ATA100 drivers?

How good is the performance of the native win2000 drivers?

I have a Abit TH7-II Raid MB and a P4 1.9GHz. I would be interested to hear from someone who have the same config and if they have any trouble with their ATA100 drivers.

Install these drivers, in sequence:

1.) Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility.

2.) Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver

3.) Intel Application Accelerator

I have run across several instances where the Intel Application Accelerator would not install without the Ultra ATA Storage driver already present in the system. I even had to reverse the sequence on one occasion, and install the Ultra ATA Storage driver before the chipset drivers! The chipset drivers refused to install without accessing a file included in the Storage Driver, and to find that file, I had to extract the Storage Driver into a folder, and browse to the folder location. But only in that one particular situation.

I always prefer to extract drivers like this into an empty folder and update the devices manually. Much better chance of success, IMHO.

Note: It might be necessary for you reinstall DirectX 8.1 and the video card driver after installing the chipset drivers. The chipset drivers should always be installed first, before anything else, including the video card driver ... even it that makes the display difficult to see. But that's the best way to set up the drivers for an Intel Chipset.

I'd set the AGP aperture in the BIOS to half the size of your physically-installed RAM.

You won't "see" the Ultra ATA Storage driver without clicking through to this link.

The Intel drivers are far better than the native Win2K SP-2 drivers.

Do you have the latest drivers installed for the RAID controller?

I have disabled the Raid controller due to crappy drivers from Abit and to save some system resources.

I will go ahead and install the drivers as you listed them.

Have you tried to install the IAA 2.0 beta drivers?

No, sir ... haven't tried them. I'm still installing the 1.1.2 version. I've never been a big fan of beta drivers.
