NEED HELP -USB MALFUNCTION (urgent)

Hi guys,

i urgently need help as i need to use the printer
Its a new printer - Brother MFC 6490 CW, i am using Toshiba Laptop L745.
My laptop can't recognized the printer's USB, it keep on says malfunction not recognize.
I try switching off my laptop even took off the battery but to no avail, even switching off the printer...
Downloading trouble shoot from Microsoft.... etc...
To no avail....
and i urgently need to print my work... please advice me, really really appreciate it!

Most printers need the drivers installed on the computer before plugging in the printer!

of course its common sense that i did that, so i did insert the DVD trying to install the driver and it stops halfway to ask me to plug in the USB half way through the installation...
