Suggestions for building my own Tivo

Hi Everyone,

So here's the deal... I want to build a computer that functions as a DVR as well as an HTPC. I have put together several computers in my lifetime and have a good handle on all the components except for the TV Tuner card. Is there a TV Tuner (or anything else) out there that I can use to capture HD video from my cable provider's (Optimum) set-top box and save it to my harddrive? Also recommendations on a remote or good software to use for this purpose would be appreciated.

If you want all channels - look at CETON. If you only need basic cable channels you can use ATI or Hauppage products as well.

Neither will work with the cable box. They connect straight to the cable (with a coax splitter). CETON needs a cablecard from the cable company to be able to get all channels.
