Hi,

I have just replaced a motherboard in a Faulty Packard Bell. The Motherboard was/is an ECS MCP73VT-PM Mainboard. After replacing it, i went to reinstall the Cooler Master system cooler, (The only markings i can see are mgt8012zr-w25 and cm12v. On the underside of the old board, there is an "X" shaped bracket, that allows me to screw the unit to the motherboard.
Unfortunately, my new board does not have this, (I wouldn't expect it to.) and the old one is glued (I think, it seems to be.) to the old board.
As far as i can make out, this is the Retention bracket for the CPU?? Can i buy replacement, (Will they all fit?) Or do i have to buy that exact one? How can i find it, and where would i buy it.

I have done this once before, but i was able to easily clip the bracket from the MSI board.

Thank you.

think this: mgt8012zr-w25 is the model number of the fan. I believe you're talking about the back plate. If you removed some tape that was on it when installing it could be stuck to the board. Since you are replacing the board you can just pop it off with a screwdriver, or if its really stuck try heating it up with a hair drier or something.

Hi

I agree with AM2A. Just be brave and force it off the old board. That one's gone anyway, right?

But then - when you install the back plate on the new board - make sure that you keep an intact layer of that plastic material between the bracket and the board. This prevents the bracket from shorting any contacts on the motherboard. Otherwise you're probably going to roast your new mobo or the CPU or both when you fire it up.
