If it's quality you're after and can stretch the extra £50 then go for the
Epson R800.

Yes.
The R800 has to be the best, it is streets ahead of the 200 and 300, as far
as quality of output is concerned.
No gimmicks, just quality.
It can even produce stunning Black and Whites.
I can not wait to get my hands on the Wide version, the R1800.

Yeah I agree Roy, as I mentioned in an earlier post I had a chance to try
the R1800 at the recent Focus On Imaging with some of my own Photos - it was
stunning! Unfortunately, little definite news on being able to get my hands
on one in the UK yet (
At the show Epson were stating availability as April but I've yet to see any
supplier websites advertising even the ability to pre-order. The R1800 is
finally up on Epson's own website & lists suppliers where one can get it
from (just seems they don't know about it yet). Also, following the link for
R1800 consumables on Epson's own online store also lists 'nothing
available'.

Can you actually get the ink to flow through the nozzles on this one if you
don't use it for more than 5 minutes?
Chris, who's just replaced his Epson Stylus Headclog 1290 with a Canon
i9950, and is looking forward to not having to use 50% of each ink cartridge
up in head cleaning.

I have a 1270, 1280 (your 1290) and a 7600 and in 5 years have had a total
of one clog.

A recent thread in comp.periphs.printers
Message-ID: <uhg4e.7268$il.1409@newsfe5-win.ntli.net>
has pointed out that it is impossible to replace the waste ink pad in the
200 without replacing a good part of the printer given it's flimsy build.
