Dell Precision 690 - installing ASUS 6870 issues

I am trying to install a Asus 6870 video card in a Dell 690 and seem to be having power problems. I have a 1000w version....any insight? Seems like I am not getting enough power...everything tries to spins up and then nothing.

did you have any luck with this? I've got a 690 750W and fan spins up but no display...

if I put an xfx 9600 gso video card it boots up, but with the 6870 card it doesn't seem to display anything... the 6870 card requires another 6 pin power which I have an adapter to go from a 4 pin power plug... it just seems the 6870 isn't getting enough power or something...
