I think he's pulling your leg - a lot of this hardware doesn't exist yet! And there's no motherboard - at least that I'm aware of - that can run quad 580s, or dual Bulldozers unless EVGA adapts their Classified SR-2 to that platform (and they probably wont).

Like I said - I think he's pulling your leg, even Maximum PC's Dream Machine 2011 - only used a single i7-2600K, doesn't make mention of any of that, and their 2010 model - which did use dual CPUs and dual PSUs - used dual OC'd Xeons and 24GB of RAM. Read on:

I referenced that Max PC article, g-unit. The guy is $2,588 short to even build the Dream Machine. Though they probably paid $1,000 for the custom paint on the case. But! They only use 16GB of RAM. You can get 8 gig stick for $300 ea, though.
It just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser in here.....

Samuel, I'm going to be a douche right now. But your friend is a retard for spending that much money on a single computer. Let alone one that could not possibly exist because there are no 990FX boards with 2 CPU slots. That would be a server setup and Interlagos is releasing until next year I believe.

As for being even more dumb, if he ACTUALLY got that much money, I'd be saving it for College (A practical use) and or get parts for his car. Course, does your friend know manual? If not he's a pu*** for driving a Porsche without manual or DSG.

His dad's a douche and doesn't let him drive it and doesn't let him use the internet at his house. And so he has to use a black guy's connection from like 2 miles away with a homemade wifi-stealer. But really, this kid, he's super smart. He is a legend at our school for being the best at programming and such.

And even they admit that anything over 1600 MHz is pretty useless, and 1 x 8GB chips are incredibly expensive and pretty rare - the only ones listed on Newegg are going for like $150 a chip.

He admits that he made a mistake about the 990 supporting quad gtx580 and now hes looking for a new mobo. Right now his current build is 32gb DDR3 2166Mhz, quad GTX580, dual xeon's, dual 1050w PSU's and a EVGA SR-2 mobo.

Tell your friend to just spend 1.5K on a machine and save the rest of that money. No freaking way would I drop 10K on a computer.

Life isn't all about sitting in front of a screen. Invest it in something else... like a college education for example.

No offense, if he's so rich why would he be talking to you and asking for your help on computers. I think he'd just go get the best prebuilt from a store or site that offers them.

lol dude but aren't you really odd? you say he's getting "Dual 1050w PSUs" and then ask us for power requirements.

Regardless, spent nukes will do, or you may want enriched plutonium if you're into that sort of thing...
