Hi, I am a beginner in digital pictures. Just got an IOGEAR GFR202SD card
reader. Contrary to what I saw on a downloaded manual, there doesn't seem
to be a driver for Windows 98 SE.
Windows sees that it's plugged in to USB, but can't access it because of
lack of driver.
I called Provantage twice, emailed, and also emailed IOGEAR. No help so
far, no reply to emails.

Yep, I looked, and Provantage says "No returns"

Um, I don't understand that.
I plugged it in, Windows found a "UB6220", looked for a driver in its
database & on the Windows installation CD.
I also downloaded and installed a few drivers from IOGEAR and even from
PNY.
Don't know how these work - isn't there a generic driver that works
with these USB reader/writer things?

When you install on WIn XP it can also go and serach on the net for drivers
then.
SOunds like you should ebay it and buy something else. OR see if there are
any takers here

The driver is at
<http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=dm&driver&Item=GHE135U>
Apparently my computer was supposed to have uhcd.sys, which it didn't,
so I downloaded and installed the patch. Although my USB mouse and USB
thumb drive etc had been working fine previously. Also the recent Casio
camera connection.
After the patch, USB stopped working, so I removed it in Device
Manager, restarted, plugged in the hub with mouse and DataTraveler,
and am back to where I was before.

Sheldon replied:
Thanks, CSM1, I probably will give this little USB thing to a friend
with XP.

Do you have any other USB mass storage drivers for Win98SE? For example,
drivers for a Lexar JumpDrive? I have the impression that the computer
"sees" all mass-storage devices as the same sort of thing, though I'm not
sure this is true with Win98SE.
It is certainly surprising that Iogear doesn't offer Win98SE drivers for
their product. Since you have nothing to lose, you might try downloading the
Win98SE drivers from some other external hard drive makers such as Maxtor
and/or Western Digital and see if they work with your Iogear unit.

Oops, make that some other flash-memory card reader such as Lexar or
Sandisk.
