Laptop ram

Hello,
i have a hp compaq 620 and i went to take the 2gb ram chip out and replace it with an 8gb ram chip but when i did that the power turned on but not the screen when i went back to my old 2gb ram it works fine but i want the performance from the 8gb any thoughts?

Odds are your laptop cannot handle 8GB of RAM or at least cannot handle a single 8GB SO-DIMM module. You may want to contact HP to figure out just how much RAM can be installed in that particular unit, and then scale your ambitions accordingly.

alright thanks mate now i have a starting off point

looking on HP site, it looks like the laptop will support 8gb, but is has to be 2*4gb. there are 2 slots & it appears each one will support 4gb each for a total of 8gb
