Hello,

I have an asus z8pe-d18 motherboard. It's been a solid workhorse.
Currently, I'm looking to use the 2nd serial port (com 2). There are header pins on the motherboard.
Documentation is a little thin here. I have installed a cable to the header pins.

Using minicom and an external breakout box, I am able to loop back tx and rx pins of com 1.

Trying the same thing on com 2 doesn't work.

are there any special jumpers or bios settings I'm missing?

Thanks,
Doug

Thank you for the quick reply.

These actually default as shown in the manual and are already enabled, but thanks for looking.
There is another section (4.5.1) in the manual regarding a server/ remote access configuration in the bios. This defaults to com2, irq3,2f8. I turned this off before my first post. Still, nothing out of the on board com2 header pins. I'm beginning to wonder if this connector even works at all or if it is connected to different controller chip than com1. Or is something else (like the remote server access) interfering with traditional serial port io on com2?

Any thoughts/suggestions welcome.. (yes, I've emailed asus, but no response)

Tried this too. Both of these type of connectors. Neither one works-- looping tx back to rx will not pass data back to the terminal program minicom or hyperterminal.

Looks like com2 port may flawed, bug or broken.

Has anyone been able to get this port working on their z8pe-d18 board? How?

Thanks,
Doug
