Hello, I think I've read and tried everything to solve this problem. Win sound in "services" is on automatic. Sound card (Yamaha DSP Factory) has always worked before reinstall. Device Manager shows yellow "?" on Mass Storage Controller, and two Multimedia audio controller.
I've disabled multimedia in Accessories and Utilities under Windows Components Wizard, then rebooted then re-enabled same and rebooted. Nothing.
I reinstalled WIN XPSP2 on a clean formatted HD from a Slipstream CD I made. Could this be the problem? My original installation was made from the factory CD, then SP2 installed from Windows Update on the net.
Any help would be very much appreciated:

Custom computer, Intel D865PEARL .

Have you installed the drivers for your motherboard and components? If you format the drive then you wipe out the drivers!

Rolli59: THanks for replying. OMG I did NOT install drivers for MB. You're the very first that mentioned it among throngs who have reinstalled XPSP2. I have the Intel disk, amazingly enough, since this is an ancient build.
I'll try it, but won't get the chance until the wee hours or I'll have to wait until we return from a family Christmas cruise to Mexico.
Thanks again. I'll let you know.
