Hi Community

I am trying to finish building my home purpose Rig. I have installed all the components, but facing
weird issues.

Hardware:
AsRock z77 Extreme4 Mobo
Core i5 3550
Corsair Vengeance 4GB X 2
Seagate SATA3 ST2000DM001 2TB 6Gb/s
ASUS DVD R/W
Cooler Master Thunder 500W
Cooler Master Elite 370 Cabinet
(Other stuff isnt necessary I guess)

I am done with hardware installation (quiet successfully) I think, as I am able to boot up go into BIOS. Put on Windows installation Media and start installation.

Setup:
My mobo comes with 8 SATA Ports (2 SATA2 intel, 2 SATA2 AsMedia, 2 SATA3 intel, 2 SATA3 AsMedia)
so I connected my HDD into intel SATA3 port (SATA3_0) as my drive spec says its 6Gb/s SATA3
and my DVD drive on AsMedia SATA3 port (SATA3_A3)

Problem:
When I check from UEFI BIOS, in System Monitor (the interactive motherboard component view) and check my SATA3_0 port, the HDD Model etc is detected correctly but Size is shown as 4.1GB
Same info appears on Advanced > Storage Configuration page.

Then I configured SATA Model to AHCI | SMART - Enabled | External SATA - Disabled
I put in a Windows installation media (98, XP, 2000, 7 Beta tried all of these)
In the setup the Disk 0 Unallocated space appears as 128GB (ONLY).

Moreover it says cant install on it, check if Disk controller is enabled in BIOS etc.

On different OS i get similar error's like
DISK NOT BOOTABLE,
STOP Error : 0x00000986

I understand that the Win7 setup is unable to detect SATA3 drive (but this didnt work if I connected Drive to SATA2 also).

I have even flashed the BIOS to latest one (P2.20) from ASRock site.
also, created a USB with SATA3 driver (by putting the Mobo CD into Drive, alongwith a USB pen drive)
then booting up, so a FreeDos (on CD) allows me to store SATA drivers on USB. Which I can use during Win 7 installation.
But, even after that I get same errors.

I then put my laptop's HDD (SATA) into my Rig. Booted the Win 7 (original) on it...
Then Went to My Computer > Manage > Disk management
To my surprise, the 2TB HDD appears as 128GB here too.

I havent formatted the HDD, its just out of box.

has anyone here built a z77 RIG, with SATA3 Boot drive and Win 7

Please help Guys

Read from another Thread:

try the Diagnostic tool from your manufacturer.
If it says Failed/Error then its a Faulty Drive get replacement.

Otherwise try Writing all 0's to the Disk and/or Low Level Format

Will try this today
