Hello,
I want to buy a new ASUS or Gigabit motherboard. I have an AMD, Phenom II, x4 910e CPU. Please tell which ASUS motherboards (am3 socket) are compatible with the following other hardware I own?:
Memory: DDR2, 667 Mhz DIMM, 2x 1GB, unbuffered (PNY); future addition of DDR3
Hardrive: SATA , 2x 131 GB (Western); future addition of SATA2
Graphics: PCIe slot board, nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS.

There is a problem that you are going to have if later on you want to switch from DDR2 to DDR3 besause the DDR2 will not fit in the same slot as the DDR3 , the slots are different. So if you are going to do that then it means getting a new motherboard when you want to do the switch.
I'm npt finding any AM3 MB that will take DDR2 ram and there are very limited choices on the DDR3 MB.

ASUS M4N98TD EVO AM3 NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI ATX AMD Motherboard

ASUS M4A88T-V EVO AM3 AMD 880G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

This is all I found on Newegg and there are no Gigabyte boards.

Thanks so much for the useful info. Both you and GhislainG are right about making the switch to advanced technology- I should not do it halfway. I bought this AM3 socket motherboard: ASUS M4A87TD with DDR3, USB 3.0 and SATA3. Now I have to buy DDR3 memory. Do you think that both my nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS graphics PCI-E and Western SATA (regular harddrive) will work on this new board? I hate to waste well-working hardware.

Yes both of those parts will work on that MB. While it is hard to not use working hardware you should consider at some piont upgrading the video card , I don't know if you use the computer for gaming but if you do then a video card upgrade would make a huge performance increase. Maybe that could be next on the list of upgrading.
