$650 Gaming Build Check

Greetings from the distant lands of Canada, just put together a $650 dollar build, minus some things I have left over from my previous system, never really used these forums before but I've always kept up with Toms Hardware (yessir me and Tom go way back) so I figured I'd see what opinions you guys have on this build. And if no one posts anything I'll have to assume I am perfect.

CPU:

Intel Core i5 2500k : 199.99

Mobo:

BIOSTAR TP67B+ LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard: 114.99

RAM:

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 : 39.99

GPU:

PowerColor AX6850 1GBD5-DH Radeon HD 6850 : 149.99

HDD:

Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" : 36.99

Total:

$639.73 (this includes taxes, shipping and a 20 dollar DVD burner)


I'm $10 dollars under budget. Any thoughts?

Your build looks good except the Biostar mobo.

Check out Asrock or Asus. P67 or Z68 will run Ivy Bridge, so ignore the village noober.

Seems fine. Go for Z68 motherboard as others said.

Biostar is not very good choice for mobo .. try looking for something else like Gigabyte, Asrock or ASUS

Nothing wrong with biostar, i have had the board you are looking at for a few months now and it runs spectacular with zero issues. Have it mildly OC'd at 4.2ghz without touching voltage (2500k).

Although the reason i got mine is because it was 59.99 at microcenter, got my 2500k there as well for 179.99, so i couldnt pass it up.

The build quality is not very good. For instance they use regular MOSFET which releases 16% more heat then low RDS ones.
Agree on microcenter. Best store to get cpu+mobo combo
