Dearest gurus,

Starting a BG2 game with human fighter with 4 slots in sling. Straight after
Imoen opens cage, dual-class human fighter to mage. Get to spend 1 slot on
sling. Realise we don't get to enjoy the other proficiencies slots from
fighter until mage is same level, BUT when it does, will char have 5 slots
in sling(I expect answer is yes, but want to be sure) ?
Same scenario but fighter spent 5 slots in sling. Do we end up with 6?

Yours-in-celery,

Actually, I think it's possible he might end up with 1 slot in sling,
since IIRC the proficiencies you get with your 2nd class override
those of the first class after you regain first class abilities.

No, they don't override as a general principle.

In the case of proficiencies, the greater number overrides the smaller
number. So, 5 slots from 1st class plus 1 slot from 2nd class, you get
5.

To maximize your number of proficiencies when dual-classing, therefore,
make your classes have *as few proficiencies as possible* in common -
then, when your second class overtakes your first, every pip counts.
