Upgrading dell optiplex gx280

Last response: in CPUs

I have a GX280 small desktop. The motherboard model number is CN-0G8310-13740-51G-0010 / REV-A00

The CPU is a Intel Pentium(R) 4 / 3.00GHz 1MB L2. Can I upgrade to a 3.2 or 3.4 and what would be the numbers on the CPU. I bought a 3.4 1MB/800 and my computer said it wasn't compatible.

Can you tell me what the right upgrade would be? Please help.

Thank you,

Kenny H

I assume this PC is for MS office, web surfing, tax software, etc., and nothing CPU intensive.

in all honesty, you would see no real world difference between a P4 at 3ghz or 3.4ghz. Your best bet would be to get up to 1.5- 2GB of RAM (especially if you are at 512mb) otherwise investing in a new PC would be far better for your PC experience. Purchasing a new CPU that is basically identical to your current CPU would be a waste of money.
