G.Skill Sniper DDR3 4 GB PC RAM (F3-12800CL9S-4GBSR) - Tests Failing.

Hi,

I recently purchased the F3-12800CL9S-4GBSR RAM modules for my ASUS M5A97 R2.0 motherboard and wanted to do some testing on the memory modules as it was bringing up random BSODs. Upon checking with Memtest86+ v2.11 I observed a couple of errors (snaps attached). I have also attached the RAM specification screen shots. Kindly suggest what needs to be done to resolve the issue. As suggested by the G.Skill team, I've also enabled DOCP.

Have you set the motherboard bios ram settings to your ram specs? If not, try that in manual mode. Then you can decide if you want to return or exchange the ram for something else.

Hi there. I had contacted the G.Skill support team prior to purchasing the RAM for compatibility and was told the following:

Dear Customer

Enable DOCP under AI Overclock Tuner in Advanced Mode > Ai Tweaker > Ai Overclock Tuner and that should configure memory settings automatically.

Not sure about what settings to go with in Manual Mode. Do you suggest requesting for an RMA?

Also ran the HCI MemTest app. Posting a few errors from the log file where I tested about 1000 megabytes of RAM. Tonnes of errors.

Try changing the ram voltage, even dropping it a bit. The range can be from 1.4-1.65. I would send it in to gskill, unless your vender will swap it. For defective products within 15-30 days (depending on the item), newegg will pay for return shipping; they send you a ups barcode you print and paste on your package.

I have not messed with the voltage settings manually yet. Some one suggested me to check for bent pins on the processor too. I do not know how relevant that is but I ran a quick test on my Processor with the help of a utility called PC-Check off the Hiren's Boot CD and the tests passed.

The vendor will be calling me tomorrow to talk about the immediate replacement.

The most recent BIOS update seems to have resolved the issue. Also ran the latest version of Memtest (4.20). The modules passed with no errors. Will be keeping the system under observation and will update you guys if the issue persists.
