SD Card Q

Doesn't look like the first attempt went through, my apologies if this
appears twice.

I recently received a cheap-ish underwater camera for SCUBA diving from
the GF. It takes SD cards, and in the instructions is says that I can
upgrade to 512meg SD, which I was under the impression was the maximum
size SD cards could be.

Any way's, I noticed at the store that SD cards upto 4GB are available -
do you need a special camera to use these larger cards, or are they
compatible with all SD-compatible cameras? I'd ask the manufacturer,
except that they are in Taiwan (where the GF got it), and they don't
seem to have a distributer in N. America.

I should mention that the camera itself is an older 3.3megapixel camera,
and I image is probably a cheap, older camera the housing company got
their hands on.

Thanx

Bryan

I don't know about your camera, but mine (an HP) definitely doesn't take all
sizes of SD. When I contacted HP, they said I could try other cards at my
own expense, but they weren't guaranteeing anything. I now own some cards I
can't use.

I suggest you stay with 512, which is a lot of pictures anyway.

Above 2GB requires the use of FAT32, and being an older camera, it's
unlikely to support it.

You should have no problem using cards up to 2GB, but beyond that, the
camera software will need to be able to handle FAT32 formatting.

Thanx everyone for your help. I actually managed to get an e-mail
through to the company (not easy, seeing as I don't know a word of
Mandarin), and got a reply from them. Turns out the camera can hold a
max of 512meg, and not a drop more. I wonder if this means the camera
is using something more primitive then FAT?
