Cannot use clone / mirror screen option

hi,

i am using vista on a dell studio laptop with a sony bravia lcd.
i have hooked it up with an HDMI cable and it works fine as an extended desktop but i cant get the mirrored / cloned desktop option to work. every time i choose this option my tv screen goes blank and says "unsupported signal..."

i initially had trouble getting the extended desktop to work, but once i change the resolution of the secondary monitor (tv) to 1280 x 720 it was ok.

any tips to get the clone / mirror desktop happening??

Sounds like you are trying to send an unsupported signal to the TV. As a test, set the laptop screen resolution to the TV one (1280x720), 60hz refresh rate, and try to clone then.
