An old debate maybe but i too am indecisive about these chips as im planning to build a new system based on one of these so which one should be my choice for latest games,crysis 2 and battlefield 3 in particular.......thx for your opinions in advance......:)............and yeah i wont be doing any oveclocking or core unlocking

can the phenom II be unlocked to 4 cores :P, then that would be the better path

------------------------------ AMD phenom II x4 840 3.2 GHz, 8gb ddr3 1333mhz ram, AMD radeon HD6770 1gb gddr 5, 500 watt psu, 1tb SATA hardrive... i <3 my computer

The Athlon II will have more power in games that use more than 2 cores. Like BF3. But, unlocking isn't hard at all, and I am sure you could do it.
