PC Hard Drives

I have a quad core phenom 9750, 4 gig ram, asus mb, with 2 hard drives, a maxtor 200 gig and a wd 750 gig....my windows is on the 200 gig and i use the wd for storage. When i open my computor and select the wd750gig it hangs for several mins befor it opens....then when i go into a sub folder on that same drive it hangs again for a few secs, any ideal why it does this,,,,sometimes it even locks up and i have to ctl alt del to end program on 'my computor'
