1) The PSU testers are OK for a go-no-go at Minimial load prior to connecting to a system. They will not identify problems that a PSU may have under load.

2) To Test under load you need a program that displays your voltages. I normally always verify that the software is correct using a digital voltmeter. They are cheap (less than 20 bucks @ walmart) and are very simple to use, just google how to use a voltmeter. The +5 and the +12 can be easily measured at a Molex connector - Two middle pins = Black= Return (Ground) and the 2 outside: yell = +12 V and the Red = +5V

Then download and run, monitor the _+12V and the +5 V:
Prime95, Loads the cpu
Furmark. Maxs out GPU, Heavy load on +12 V
+5 V Min is 4.75V and +12 V min is 11.4 (I personally ditch PSU if Below 11.6 V).

what are you having problems with/about so you could get better answers to suit your needs?

You can jump a couple of pins on your PSU without your motherboard to test things, such as testing a liquid cooling system to make sure water is flowing, no leaks without destroying a motherboard, or just testing other components:

You dont need a switch to do this, he just wanted more control over it, but if you simply connect the 2 ports, it will power up
