Well haven't kept up gaming, but i would like to play BF3.
Heres my system
GA-M59SLI-S5
Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 4x1gb
x1900xt
thermaltake 600 watt psu
windows xp
I run 1024x768 I just want to play dont need all the bells and whistles.
think I can go up to athlon x2 6400+ on this mobo.
maybe get some older parts off ebay just to get me up to snuff.
I know I'd have to get windows 7
can I work with this motherboard or would I have to do a whole new build.
trying to go a cheap as possible
any help would be appreciated
thanks

Hellfire your obviously a very inteligent individual why dont you go and solve world hunger or something?

Idiots aside +1 to lewza... If your not concerned with all the fancy graphics you could pheasibly get new half decent mobo cpu gpu and ram for under 500 that would be able to just do it. Your PSU is decent and to be honest you might just get away with your current RAM, dont know about compatability with a new mb tho would need to look into it and thats not my place

Your right the PSU probably is the only re-useable component from that build.

RAM would need to be DDR3 on an upgraded mobo.

Something like:
AM3 Mobo
AMD Phenom II x4 955
ATI 6850/6870
4GB RAM

Will be plenty to run BF3 in nice details at 1024x768 resolution without breaking the bank. Probably looking at just over £300 for what I listed above - even cheaper if your in the US :) Sub $500 at a guess. Ill edit this post with some links shortly.

---------------

$120 Phenom x4 955: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808
$150 (after rebate) Sapphire 6870: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102948
$33 G.Skill 1600MHz 4GB RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277
$72 AM3 MSI Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130290
$375 total.

hey bro i am so sorry for such a post.i forgot to sign out and i think ryan(a funky frnd of mine) posted it coz he know that i like this forum stuff.
once again sorry.i am also gonna kick ryan's butt.

by the way try to upgrade to a 5770 which may play bf3 at med to high with 30+fps.
i dont know why people are overestimating bf3 for graphics.i know that game has EPIC graphics but its
well optimised and does not requires any 6990 crossfire or 590 sli.

by the what about gtx 260 @$99 only.go to newegg and find out.i think 260 will beat 5770
so think about gtx 260
