Adding CPU's to my Dell XPS 630

Forum CPU & Components : CPUs Adding CPU's to my Dell XPS 630

Hello,

I have a Dell XPS 630i with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8200 @ 2.66 GHX. The case has room and is pre-wored for additional CPU's. It was originally intended to be a Quad Core but I was too broke at the time I bought it. My question is if I buy additional processors do I have to change the motherboard ? or is this a simple plug and play add on ?

Hard to say; I would post your question in the dell forum. Dell doesn't specify which cpus your bios will work with; and new wolfdale quads are too expensive; the q6600 is a popular quad and can cost less than $100 used, but runs at only 2400, so it's no faster than what you have now even with the extra cores.
