I have been looking to buy memory for my computer.
Do I really need cas2 pc133 . Will cas3 pc133 do for general
home sue. What should I expect with budget (generic) memory vs. high end memory.
I wouldn't buy anything not CAS2 thse days, but that's just a personal preference for a little more performance, mainly in games. The truth is that you absolutely do not need CAS2.
I would, however, recommend that you get some name brand RAM, or at the very least, purchase from some place that has a good reputation and has been around for a while.
Just off the top of my head, you can get a 128 meg stick of Corsair PC-133 CAS3 "Value Select" for US $73 at http://www.memman.com or you can go to http://www.crucial.com and get a CAS2 stick for only $78. Quite a few people like the Crucial, although I've never used it.
Although CAS2 would be preferable, the most important decision is Brand Name vs Generic. You are MUCH better served getting CAS3 Brand Name, than CAS2 Generic (which I have never actually seen.. Can you get CAS2 Generic?)
