Gigabyte Z77 UP4 TH Installing OS

My Motherboard:
GA-Z77X-UP4 TH

I'm trying to figure out how to install my OS using a USB 2.0 16GB Thumb Drive. This board only has USB 3.0 on the back IO. Will my front panel USB 2.0 work to install the OS via a USB Thumb Drive? The MB also has 2 USB 3.0 ports on the back IO that are labeled for Mouse / Keyboard, would this indicate possible ability to use for installation of the OS?
Any tips and or suggestions are greatly welcome.

Thank you for your time.

  1. USB 3.0 ports should support USB 2.0 devices. Any working USB 2.0 or 3.0 port should do the trick. Also, I'm fairly sure that you don't have USB 3.0 ports that are labeled mouse/keyboard. That doesn't make sense and sounds more like PS/2 ports.

Actually I'm 100% positive the motherboard DOES have USB 3.0 ports labeled Mouse / Keyboard. I think its using some intel something or other that makes them turn into 2.0 and not require drivers or something like that.

Here is a link to show you the ports labeled for mouse and keyboard:

That's not necessarily labeling them as mouse/keyboard ports, that's probably just throwing a sticker on it that shows two devices that are often used by USB nowadays. They should work as ports for anything else that utilizes USB 2.0/3.0 just as well.
  4. yet no other USB 3.0 on the back IO can be used before drivers are installed just those 2. So obviously there is something different about them.... BTW I didn't say they were Keyboard / Mouse ports I said they were marked for them. so yes they are USB 3.0 MARKED for keyboard and mouse. are they specific ports NO but they have a specific job before drivers are installed allowing those ports to be used. So if those can be used or any other USB 2.0 to install a fresh OS then thank you for the information.
  5. You should be able to use any USB port in that system. If it really needs it, you should be able to simply put the USB 3.0 driver on the flash drive and load it up in the Windows installer.
