Have a friend with an hp. This is his mobo

He just purchased this cpu

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I have no expeirience with amd cpu/mobo set ups. He asked me to install it for him but after installing the computer doesnt boot, powers on to a black screen. I put the old cpu back in (a 9500) and it runs fine. The new cpu is AM3 but From what I've read it can run on AM2+ which I believe his motherboard is capable of. I really dont know jack about amd so did this kid simply get a cpu not compatible with his mobo or is it just a dead chip

The Processor is backwards compatible with AM2+ as long as the BIOS supports it.. if it hasn't been updated, that would have to be done before the processor can work. I've read several articles mentioning this compatibility issue (if you can call it that), so updating the BIOS should be the solution

You better use the old processor to have video and update the BIOS
