I've done the research and gotten some help here. Now I'm ready to go.

This system will be used for Photoshop – editing larger images (now 20 Mb each). Other apps are standard business stuff. No games. No overclocking. Quiet operation is a big deal for me - it is a quiet area now! Reusable parts: 2 monitors, SATA drives, SATA DVD, and KB, mouse, etc. This is my to-buy list.

Corsair Dominator 2x4GB, DDR3 1600

The total comes to about $500 - I'm OK with that.

So, what do you think? Add, delete, substitute... Thanks for your feedback.

And I hope you will all be as helpful when I start the build
:wahoo:

What you need is 100% for sure a MacMini. Its tottally silent, and its compatible with the magic mouse, a touch sensitive mouse that lets you scroll horizontally.diagonally etc...360 degrees, thats ta must for working with picutres.

If you dont feel confident getting a Mac, there is a equivalent on windows side:
