Hello, I was wondering which CPU I should get? Im looking to "future proof" as much as possible with a budget. I will be gaming, programming, and editing video etc. I was looking at the Phenom 1100T or the i5 2500K, I cant afford an i7.

Actually since you have ivybridge in mind, get a 2500k atm, then next year upgrade to ivybridge. But the benchmarks say everything: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Benchmarks-Intel-Ivy-Bridge-CPU-sandy-bridge,14144.html
indeed, the i7 is a great processor, but the software you use has to support it properly to get your money out of it. I was going to go for the i5 2500, but decided on the i7 when I realized it was so cheap at Microcenter ($30 difference between the i5 on newegg and the i7 I got... not worth $100, but definitely worth $30)

Im not sure yet if Ivy Bridge will make a huge difference worth waiting for over the i5 2500K SB. Im new to overclocking but could easily push it to 3.7-3.8 on air, two friends from work have. Is AMD total garbage not even worth looking at? I know the BD chips are taking an A*( whooping with benchmarks and all.
