can pick up EVGA 680i mobo with 8gb corsair ram and quad core qx6800 for $100 this week. i currently run amd phenom 9500... would it be worth the switch?? mostly gaming and i will try and overclock the cpu. cant find ANYWHERE the comparisons... mostly the qx6800vs phenomiix4 so im assuming thats a good thing??

let me know what you think... dont have much time!

Not worth it. The QX6800 is overall faster (5% - 10%), but not by enough to justify spending $100 and time to upgrade. Also, most games are not CPU dependent so as long as the CPU is fast enough not to bottleneck the graphics card. In this case, both CPUs are fast enough that you will hardly see any improvement (if any) unless you are simply interested in seeing benchmark numbers.

Normally I'd be agreeing. But in this case if you can sell your phenom for board and ram and make up 50 dollars it is well worth it.

You gain 800 mhz and likely 4 GB of ram but the motherboard stinks for overclocking but could perhaps get you to 3.4 so I feel if you can make up a few bucks selling your old gear or have a use for it then 100 dollars seems worth it.

put it this way, im meeting the guy in the am, 100 cash in hand for 8gb corsair dominator mem, the evga 680i mobo and the intel cpu. i currently run amd 9500, 4gb ram on a biostar tf 720 a2+ with a gtx570... i think it would be worth it for the extra ram and high end mobo? ive heard even still to this date theyre great boards?? not to mention my current cpu IS OCed to 2.6ghz... where i have hopes of OCing the QX6800 to 3.3 or higher...?

It is easily the best upgrade you can make for 100 dollars sell the rest for whatever you can get.

680i isn't a great overclocker but you will get an extra bit of mhz because it is a xtreme edition and might make it to 3.3Ghz
