I think that you can do software RAID 1 without a RAID controller in Windows. I know that you can do it with Linux.

Thanks, I'll look into that.
I'm running win 7 pro at the moment ( but used to use Ubuntu until 3 years ago )

Yeah, you just right click on computer and click on manage from the context menu that pops up. From there, you click storage and Disk Management. You can do software RAID from there, what types of RAID are available depend on the OS type. I think that Windows 7 Pro has software RAID 1 and RAID 0 support, possibly also RAID 5, but I'm not sure about that last one.

Why spend so much for what software RAID, which is free, can do just as well? Heck, simply buying a PCIe RAID controller would be better than buying a new motherboard.

Thank you so much for your instruction. It's new for me.

Some excellent advice here gents, Many thanks.
I think I'll buy a second hard drive with the same volume as the 1st and use software RAID, as I've got no problems with my motherboard. :)  :)
